After extensive investigations and field geological mapping at several short-listed potential sites, Kate Valley (coastal North Canterbury) was ultimately selected for detailed intensive subsurface investigation. The field investigation programme at this site has involved the drilling and logging of over 1700m of drill core, and the excavation and logging of more than 60 testpits, as well as cone penetration and standard penetration testing of the underlying materials.
