projectsdivert=River Diversions
Ian McCahon has been directly involved in river engineering with the recent design of river diversions around alluvial gold mining sites in Waikaka and Earnscleugh. Both these diversion designs were based on producing geomorhologically stable river channels with the minimum of hard engineering structures and bank protection and were carried out in association with a river environmental specialist. The Waikaka Diversion is to be 2km long and the Fraser diversion will be in two sections each 1km long. The lower Fraser diversion is hydraulically steep and incorporates bed control structures to ensure stability. The Fraser River diversion at Earnscleugh required the preparation and presentation of evidence for the Resource Consent Hearings, including the response to submissions on the diversion.
